Public Speaker

The person I admire most for her public speaking skills would have to be Oprah Winfrey. I believe that one of the primary reason why people love her talk show is because she states any topic with such conviction. As a public speaker, she speaks clearly and she dramatizes those points/facts that needs emphasis. Upon opening her talk show, she also inserts some humor in introducing her topic or guests. In doing in depth interview, Oprah listens attentively to everything that her interviewer says and because she is a great listener, she is able to ask questions which are truly relevant—questions that her audience also wants to ask.She is also able to relate with her interviewee/audience. She shares her own story or insight which is, in most times, similar to that of her interviewee/audience.

Research is also an important contributor of Oprah’s success as a public speaker. Before she presents a certain topic or issue, the researchers of her show do in depth research. In most times, her researchers go the extra mile and expose themselves to the certain place or event that they are going to feature on the show. Apart from having great researchers for her show, Oprah also does her own research. For instance,she reads about her interviewers before she interviews them and she reads the book that she wants to feature on her show.

In summary, I admire Oprah Winfrey as a public speaker because she has confidence and conviction in whatever topic that she is discussing. She is very articulate—I don’t think she experiences “mental block” or if she does, it doesn’t show. She relates well with her audience or interviewee by sharing her insights or cracking a joke and she does extensive research before featuring a certain topic or person on her show.
